September 16th, 2020Yes, it really is 2020. Year of the C-19, Presidential election, riots, threats of defunding the police departments...and the list could go on.
However! Other countries have faced far worse trials and tribulations...so I'll just keep the focus on Jesus.
Now, a few quilts have been made...the SQS (aka Sharon's Quilting Studio) (blame my husband for that misnomer) has been reorganized more than once. I think the count is up to 5 times since we moved into this beautiful house 2 years ago (in June). And add other STUFF to life and you get the idea why just a few quilts.
The biggest project that will soon start is the backyard. Quick memory share. When we first looked at the house and walked out family room into the backyard, my first thought was - wow, sweet. Compact back yard. That thought was soon replaced when the back gate was open. A few photos may help....
Easy to take care of...(ha)....and then we opened the gate ...well, easier to show with a "few" photos....
Quite a shock, to put it mildly.
The work begins in the next few weeks. Trees marked for removal (yes, they are in very bad shape), honeysuckle vines thick as - well, very thick - will be removed (translation: trenched/dug out/blasted). After all that lovely trenching, digging, blasting....a row of trees will be planted. Arbovitaes. Again, translation: 45 arborvitaes. Never heard of them? Think shrub with a small trunk. They will grow together to form a nice hedge. Will grow very tall in a short time.
Why arborvitaes? Little did we know that when we purchased this lovely home, the back yard is considered "frontage" .... meaning, absolutely NO fence higher than 3 feet (maybe it's only 2 feet) may be placed in the backyard. No kidding. However, we MAY plant as many trees as we wish - regardless of their height. I'm sure there's some logic behind allowing trees but not fences.
My days have been occupied with Pinterest...landscaping, elevated garden beds, fountains, koi ponds, stepping stones versus grass (I vote stepping stones)...with not a whole lot of energy devoted to quilting.
When the work begins, stay tuned for photos!
In the meantime, keep on quilting!
Sharon
